Catholic Church leaders in Asia will continue paying more attention to young people even after the consultations done during the synodal process ahead of the Synod of Bishops in Rome next year.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe would like to listen to the youth \u2026 We would like to make their visions realized,\u201d said Cardinal Charles Maung Bo of Yangon, president of the Federation of Asian Bishops\u2019 Conferences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The prelate, who was attending the inauguration of the FABC 50th anniversary in Bangkok on August 22, said \u201cwe need to make sure that the attention given to the youths will be a reality.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the Church has been \u201ctrying to listen to the youth in our synodal preparation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2021, Pope Francis formally opened a two-year process called \u201ca synod on synodality,\u201d officially known as the \u201cSynod 2021-2023: For a Synodal Church.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The process involves an expansion of an established institution, called the \u201cSynod of Bishops,\u201d with Church leaders around the world consulting with everyone before coming together for a discussion in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his message during the gathering on Monday, Cardinal Bo said the Asian Church and the FABC \u201cstands at the crossroads of a very challenging epoch.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe gather amidst suffocating clouds of conflict and displacements, collapse of the economy, frightening climate change, pandemic and starvation of millions,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSecularism is on the ascendency in the traditional Christian world. Authoritarian leadership is becoming norm in many countries,\u201d added Cardinal Bo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He noted that democracy faces \u201cstiff challenges\u201d and fundamentalism and religious violence \u201cthreaten global peace.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are called upon to examine ourselves what could be the role of Asian Churches in these challenging moments,\u201d the cardinal addressed his fellow church leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are challenged to be Synodal Church,\u201d he said. \u201cWe are becoming aware of the call of the Gospel to become active missionaries.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
